Demise of the Gricers - Extended

Entered
Posted on: 2025 march 23
This review is more than 1 years old. The situation may have changed.

Deep into the world of the Train lovers

We finally played "Demise of the Gricers".
When the news of the end for this location came from entered, we naturally tried to reserve one of the last extended slots and were successful. Fortunately, the closure has been averted for the time being, but this gave us enough motivation to find a date together at short notice.

I don't want to spoil anything here and there are far too many reports that give too much away and even the two trailers from entered reveal too much for my liking.
A good report can be found here

After that, the excitement of all the team members calmed down a bit.
Nevertheless, the four of us arrived at the parking lot very tense and then still had 1 hour until the start of the game - luckily there is a brasserie right next to the old train station. You can have a drink there and use the toilet again.

From the moment we entered the game, we very quickly moved into the world of railroad enthusiasts ("gricers" in English), who at some point became railroad fanatics. The game design surprised me, but we all learned the mechanics quickly and, especially in the second half of the adventure, we became increasingly confident and courageous in this very dense game world with its very own rules.
The storytelling by the actresses is well integrated and happens very organically. At several points, we wondered how we had been guided to the right place.
In fact, each team member or two teams (depending on how you split up) experience their own aspects of the story and you have a lot to talk about later, which also deepens the story afterwards. You definitely won't get bored during the 3 hours.
I can only advise everyone: be brave. The game rewards it.
I've read and heard a lot recently about the possibilities of a dramaturgical "hero's journey" for players in real-life experiences and I thought it was very well implemented by entered. It actually changed my relationship with the characters during the game and influenced my decisions.

You should definitely book the extended version. There's no trial and error here and going home halfway through is definitely very disappointing.
Otherwise, stay at the local hotel and play over two days. But I don't think the experience would be the same.
The game is very physically demanding and if you are not completely insensitive to horror, it is of course also mentally demanding. However, the team at entered goes to great lengths to ensure that nobody gets to the point where the game is abandoned. Until just before, perhaps, but not beyond.
In any case, you can expect sore muscles and bruises. In my case, it was definitely a good decision that I opted for my hiking boots - my ankle is already feeling better.

A must-play "room" for every escape room lover (what are we actually called? Roomers, perhaps).
Unless you can't live without classic puzzles, because there aren't any here.

After an exciting experience, we were able to fortify ourselves in the cozy "Mi Casa y Más" tapas restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was incredibly friendly.
We felt very comfortable and I can recommend the restaurant to anyone.
Above all, there is a large selection of dishes without meat and many vegetarian dishes - which is always a pleasant surprise in Belgium.

Illusion

magical

If you appreciate illusionists, varied puzzles and a great story, Illusion is just the thing for you.
The room starts with a beautiful intro and then quickly draws players into the world of illusionist Marcus Furore.
We had a lot of fun and a lot to do. Although we had a little trouble finding our way through the first puzzle at the beginning, we were on the right track after a tip (all the tips are beautifully embedded) and were able to uncover Marcus' secret after a little under 90 minutes. But ?! An illusionist doesn't give away his tricks.

must-plax

the new room in Katwijk is definitely a must-play. The makers have outdone themselves again here. We had no idea what to expect and the great intro catapulted us straight into a world that none of us would have expected. They have built a world all of its own and every puzzle fits perfectly into the setting. The acting was always on point and drove the story forward. The setting is convincing at every point, the light, the sound and the smell - everything is well thought out and realised with attention to detail.
We were excited before the start and full of joy after the end of this incredible adventure that we were able to experience.
Play this room and be ready to pray.

so much fun

We didn't know what to expect and we were surprised a lot. The intro is just amazing and very surprising. The interior of the room is really impressive and we had a convincing prison feeling. The level of puzzles and tasks is challenging, but not impossible with some experience. There were a lot of mechanics we hadn't seen before. It's hard to believe that this room was built in 2019 and can still compete with many new rooms.

Kuriosum - Artifact of Darkness

Escape Room Witten

A hidden Gem

the setting, the story, the puzzles, the light, the sound, the smell, the entrance and the dust. This is a space that ranks among the best in Germany, but also among the best in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Here, two guys from the theatre tell an immersive story that can compete with Berlin, Hamburg, Wuppertal and Neuwied.
It's scary but never horror, but lots of adventure and fun and there's something to see and discover everywhere. I don't want to spoil anything... just go to Witten and let yourself be enchanted (or perhaps cursed?)
3 players is a good size and the advice about old clothes that can get dirty is to be taken very seriously.

Like a movie thriller

We were very excited about this game and for good reason.
It's a fun and exciting role-playing experience with great acting and very well integrated puzzles. As the story unfolded, we often held our breath and were completely caught up in the story.
The setting of the morgue has been realised very well with simple means and is fully convincing even in times of "blockbuster" rooms with expensive effects. Above all, the interaction with the actors creates a first-class immersion and ensures a first-class thrill time and again.
A room has been built here with a great deal of love and joy for escape rooms and you can tell that everyone has put their heart and soul into it.
If you can get involved in a thriller story and play the chosen role, you can experience a real adventure with a surprising outcome and lots of fun.

Lost and Found

Our favourite Hotel

The hotel theme of the provider is implemented with such attention to detail that we immediately found ourselves in the story.
The story unfolded little by little as we solved many creative puzzles. We always knew what and where we had to do. But you should be prepared for a sporty puzzle density and a few head-scratchers.
We had a lot of fun and were busy for the full 80 minutes.
The finale could have been a bit bigger - but we were told that's exactly what is planned for the next occasion. But even so, a really fantastic space.

Are you ready for the heist movie?

If you are an experienced player, you are going to see that this room is a few years older than the three new fantastic rooms at the location. But still this is a fantastic Game. It clearly was polished recently and the flow was optimised.
The decor is fantastic and the the implementation of the riddles is a joy.
From the first second you are in a heist movie and videos and live acting will make you believe to be in a even bigger story.

I played this room twice and I still love it .

Das Amulett (Part 3 of 3)

Unforgettable

At the weekend, I was finally in Neuwied with my team at 66 Minutes - Escape and Adventure Games with Actors.
The Madita Trilogy was on the agenda.

Oliver Grabus welcomed us personally before we set off on an unforgettable adventure.

66 Minutes offers an immersive experience here that rivals the best providers in Europe. So far, Brandon Darkmoor has been the best German room for me, but The Room Berlin now shares that rank with Das Amulett.

I have played many very good Escape Rooms with my team, but what has been created here with the Madita Trilogy is unique. Hollywoodlike story, effects and great acting create a world that captivates every player.

Madita's Secret is a wonderful introduction to the story about a fictional secret organisation that protects Neuwied from the murderous machinations of a mad butcher. A space designed for children, but with so much love that adults will have the same fun.

The Trophy Collector then shows what the team around Oliver Grabus is capable of. Here you are challenged from the very first minute. Acting and action alternate in our search for the secrets of the mad butcher. Slowly, the story picks up speed and more and more details that you collect on the way to solving the final mystery draw you further into the story. But beware: nothing here is what you think it is at first glance.

The amulet is then the climax of the trilogy - in every respect. In the now familiar way, we got fully into the story from the first second. I can only recommend acting at 66 minutes with the same joy as the hosts do.

The story, which at times takes your breath away, brings together the experiences of the first two parts and then pushes everything to the extreme.

It's not an action room, but it's not a scary room either. Although all the elements are there. It's just a damn well told and above all fantastically directed story. Between the heart racing and the fear sweating, we were also allowed to laugh and take a breath. And you should take a breath before the finale. The story of Madita is brought to a conclusion without mercy.

After The Amulet, you should take a break. This adventure needs to be digested first. Fortunately, at 66 minutes, the team is always available for detailed conversations about their shared passion.

The Money Rush also continues to be a top room. After some adjustments, the flow and the entry has become even better. You don't notice the age of this great room and many newer rooms can still learn something from the implementation.
