Travel in Time to Your Own Tune
Much like "The Battle for Britain" at the same location, the room has a strong focus on puzzles, but puts more emphasis on wrapping it into a narrative and employing effects. It is more on the linear side, even though each segment has something to do in parallel. We played it as a team of two, but a group of 3 or 4 should also work well.
The puzzles are creative and wonderful. One element in particular is among my all-time favourites now, but I am not going to spoil it, obviously. In our opinion, the Battle for Britain has a slight edge over this one thanks to its unique design, but it is still a tough call. Therefore, we highly recommend playing multiple rooms at this location, if you can. Finally, the owner and staff were super friendly, making it an amazing experience all around.

Wonderful "old-school" puzzle room
Some people say that there are no good escape rooms in London. While there might be no spectacle built with a six-figure budget, those people are still very much wrong.
The Battle for Britain is, by today's standards, a classic puzzle room rather than an immersive experience. Nevertheless, its props, especially its main set piece, look great. There is quite a lot of puzzles with lots to touch, move around, and interact with in different ways. You can work on puzzles in parallel or go through the whole thing together. We felt that 2 players are the perfect team size, but the room should scale just fine with more players, assuming you communicate your progress well enough. Otherwise, one person may tackle a puzzle that was already solved by someone else.
The room also features a rather unique scoring system. Without spoiling too much, it is possible to finish the game without solving every single puzzle (or getting all of them right). This means that beginner groups can have fun without feeling embarrassed while experienced players can go for the 100% completion rate. We are quite experienced at this point and felt the difficulty was just right for us.
Great fun, wonderful host, and overall a labor of love. We cannot wait to come back to play the other rooms!

Tailored towards veterans, in a good way
The Botanist is amazing. It does a thing that we have not seen before, even though I doubt it is a world first. You will appreciate it if you have played a few escape rooms already. Otherwise, I would probably advise to play other rooms first as you might otherwise not be able to fully appreciate it. We also did not have much time left despite being pretty quick on our toes, or so we thought, at least.
It should perhaps be noted that it shares some design patterns and puzzle types with the other rooms at the same location, so if there was something you really liked or did not like about Tokyo Lab, for example, prepare to find it in this room as well.
But please, be aware this is just nitpicking at the highest level. This will be in the top 10 of several lists very soon, I am sure of it.

Charmingly old-school
The room may be a bit dated by today's standards, but it easily beats many other rooms of its time. The ambience is great and its focus on puzzles is something that is often neglected in modern "escape experiences" in favor of other things. Despite its age, the puzzle difficulty is geared towards players who have already played a room or two, but that should not stop an eager group of first-time players since you will get hints if you are stuck.
If money and time are not a problem and you feel comfortable with tackling two rooms in a day, book Erzsébet before Le Prince for a sweet double feature. Preferably not the other way around though, as Le Prince is a clear step up in all aspects.

Absolutely wonderful in all aspects
Easily one of our favourites. The hosts urge you to take your time and take it all in and for good reason: the room is simply gorgeous.
The room delivers in all aspects, not limited to but including set design, puzzles, lightning, sound design, technology, and even smell. The theme and story are wonderfully original as well. Most importantly perhaps, the room has some of our favourite puzzles to this date, something that unfortunately is neglected in many modern rooms that put more emphasis on being an experience rather than a puzzle room. And yet, this room manages to be both a modern "escape experience" as well as a top-notch, more "classic" escape room. Did I mention that it also feels like a museum?
We played Erzsébet on the same day and both times the hosts walked with us through the respective room again and were happy to talk about all the little details, highlighting once again how much thought and love went into everything. Highly, highly recommended.

Timeless
The room has aged amazingly well, considering it has been around for around 7 years now. Even having played many rooms that came after it and clearly took some inspiration, I find it difficult to nitpick anything about it. Yes, some elements would probably be done differently these days, but that does not take anything away from the experience. the room managed to surprise us multiple times and the friendly staff stood out as well. One of my standard recommendations to anyone, newcomers and enthusiasts alike.

Wonderfully immersive and spooky
This is one of the best experiences we have had so far. While it is often described as an "experience" rather than a puzzle-focused escape room, it actually does have its fair share of well-designed puzzles, even if most are pretty simple at the end of the day. It has elements that feel magical and like any good magic trick, they become more impressive once you realize how it is done.
I don't really want to spoil much beyond that, so I will just say that the room is impressive and well done in pretty much all aspects, including its storytelling (which, in my personal opinion, is a rare feat).
If you are somewhat experienced, playing the room with just 2 players is very doable and actually enhances the spookiness (yes, you can play with just two players). Finally, be assured that this is not a horror room.

Above and beyond
The set design and size is simply stunning. It comes to no surprise that the room is ranked that highly for so long.
It is not perfect, though: we found one puzzle to be particularly frustrating and one puzzle type kept returning a little bit too often for our taste. I personally couldn't care that much for the story, either, as I did not find it as captivating as others apparently did. Still, this room clearly set the bar for the more ambitious escape rooms that came after it. The lobby alone is worth visiting.
Note: we played this room a while ago; some aspects might have changed since then.

Unique theme, puzzle-focused, and beginner-friendly. Best one in Aken/Aachen!
Being located in our home town, this room was among the first dozen rooms we played back in 2017 and we still have fond memories of it. We actually recommend this room whenever we have friends over from elsewhere.
While it is more of a classic escape room without an insane budget from today's perspective, its puzzles and theme made it stand out back then and—assuming our friends are a trustworthy source—still do today.
You can tell that the owner is a true board game enthusiast the moment you step into the room. Perhaps the whole thing started as an excuse to acquire more storage room for a growing board game collection. Probably not, but I choose to believe it nonetheless. Pretty much all puzzles are centered around this very theme and it made us realize back then what difference it can make if a room fully commits to its theme.
Overall, the room is very beginner-friendly but not a pushover, either. It does in fact have some optional elements that may raise your overall score (yes, there is a scoring system, which I have not seen anywhere else again since). So even for experienced players, there is something else to strive for.
Full recommendation, especially if you are new to escape rooms or you are yearning for a more "old-school" experience.
