THE DOME

Mama Bazooka
Geplaatst op: 19 oktober 2026

A Bizarre Fever Dream That’s Absolutely Worth Experiencing

Room: 217

The Dome by Mama Bazooka had been on my bucket list for quite some jears. As one of the world's most famous escape rooms and a former regular near the top of the TERPECA rankings, it naturally came with some pretty high expectations. I was genuinely excited to finally experience it for myself!

While waiting, Mama Bazooka’s lobby offers plenty of distractions. There is a self-service counter with a checkout system where you can grab drinks, snacks, and merchandise, as well as a huge variety of activities to keep you entertained for hours. From billiards and air hockey to video games and much more, there is certainly no shortage of things to do.

However, the overall service felt a little impersonal. It seemed that the venue was operating with as few staff members as possible, which meant that we did not always feel particularly well taken care of. That said, our game master genuinely made an effort, and I appreciated his commitment.

But now, let’s talk about the room itself!

The Dome is truly something else. If you are looking for a room with a compelling, elaborate storyline that draws you into its narrative, this probably isn’t the right experience for you. The story itself was not what captivated me here.

Before playing, I asked a friend what I should expect from The Dome. Her answer was simply: “Imagine a fever dream.”

Now I understand exactly what she meant.

And that is precisely what makes this room so special. Everything feels bizarre, unexpected, and wonderfully strange. You never quite know what is going to happen next, and exploring this surreal world is an absolute blast. The constant surprises kept us wondering what on earth was going on, in the best possible way.

What impressed me most were the elaborate technical effects and the way they were integrated into the experience. Some of these effects are incredibly ambitious, and their execution is genuinely clever. The timing is particularly brilliant, repeatedly leaving you thinking, “What are they doing to us?!”

These moments are what make The Dome stand out. It is not simply about what happens, but also about how and when it happens. The room knows how to surprise you, and some of its most impressive moments are all the more effective because of their impeccable timing.

The puzzles and tasks were mostly enjoyable and well implemented, although a few did not quite click with me personally. Similarly, the set design is unusual and wonderfully varied, but the room's age is beginning to show in certain places. Some objects and areas look rather worn and could benefit from a little extra care and refurbishment.

Nevertheless, it is remarkable that The Dome still feels so unique despite its age. Its originality and ambitious effects have clearly stood the test of time, even if some elements could use a refresh.

Conclusion:

The Dome probably won't become my personal favourite escape room, but it is absolutely worth the trip.

Its bizarre, surreal nature makes exploring it incredibly entertaining, and the unexpected effects and brilliant timing create moments that are hard to find elsewhere. It may not offer the most captivating storyline or consistently perfect puzzles, but that is not really what makes this experience special in the first place.

Yes, the room shows its age in places, and a little more attention to certain details would go a long way. Still, the fact that it remains such a distinctive experience is impressive in itself.

If you are in the area and enjoy unusual, ambitious escape rooms that constantly surprise you, The Dome is definitely one to put on your bucket list!

De Meisjeskamer

Mama Bazooka
Geplaatst op: 19 oktober 2026

A Fantastic Atmosphere Ruined by Poor Maintenance

Room: 216

I had fairly high expectations for De Meisjeskamer, as I really liked the theme and had heard that it featured more traditional puzzles, which I personally enjoy a lot.

Before getting into the room itself, Mama Bazooka's lobby is worth mentioning. It offers plenty of ways to pass the time, including billiards, air hockey, video games, and various other activities. There is also a self-service counter where guests can get drinks, snacks, and merchandise. While the facilities are great, the overall service can feel a little impersonal, although our game master was friendly and made an effort.

The atmosphere inside De Meisjeskamer genuinely impressed me. Despite knowing beforehand that there would be no live actor involved, the room managed to create a wonderfully creepy atmosphere. There was a constant feeling that someone might be there with us, which made the experience particularly effective. The room also featured several unique elements that I really enjoyed.

Unfortunately, the puzzles were only okay overall. Most of them were enjoyable enough, but one puzzle no longer worked as intended. I have since heard from other players that this has apparently been an ongoing issue for quite some time, which is disappointing.

However, the biggest problem was the condition of the room itself.

As soon as I entered, I noticed how worn out everything looked, and unfortunately, this impression continued throughout the entire experience. I understand that a run-down appearance is part of the intended theme, but there is a significant difference between deliberate set design and genuine neglect. In this case, that line had clearly been crossed.

Numerous elements were damaged, bent, torn, or simply falling apart. In some places, wear and tear had become so severe that it actually affected the gameplay. Certain puzzles could partly be solved by following the wear marks left behind over time. Wooden elements that were originally supposed to have sharp edges had become rounded and splintered, while some of the wire cables securing locks were so bent out of shape that they could actually prick your fingers when entering a code.

And then there was the incident that ultimately ruined the experience for me: I was injured by a malfunctioning mechanism inside the room.

My arm became trapped in the mechanism, leaving me with significant bruising that remained visible for an entire week. This was not a case of simply being clumsy or using the mechanism incorrectly. The mechanism did not function as it should have, and it caused an actual injury.

At the end of the game, our game master kindly apologised and explained that this particular mechanism occasionally malfunctioned. While I appreciated the apology, this explanation honestly left me with even more questions. If a mechanism is known to malfunction and poses a risk of injury, why has it not been properly repaired or taken out of use until it can be made safe?

For me, this is not just a matter of aesthetics or a few broken props. It is a matter of player safety. No escape room should leave its guests injured because of a known mechanical issue.

Conclusion:

De Meisjeskamer was, unfortunately, the biggest disappointment of my visit to Mama Bazooka. I went in expecting a creepy, atmospheric experience with enjoyable, traditional puzzles, and the room certainly had the potential to deliver exactly that.

The atmosphere was genuinely excellent, and it is all the more frustrating that the experience was let down so badly by the condition of the set, poorly maintained elements, and a malfunctioning mechanism that caused an injury.

A deliberately run-down environment can be incredibly effective, but it should never come at the expense of functionality, puzzle integrity, or player safety.

As much as I appreciated the atmosphere and the ideas behind this room, I cannot recommend it in its current condition. The issues go far beyond a little cosmetic refurbishment and require proper attention.

This room has a lot of potential, but until the maintenance and safety issues are addressed, the experience falls far short of what it could be.

Pray

Escape Room Katwijk
Geplaatst op: 19 oktober 2026

An Unforgettable, Atmospheric and Emotional Experience

Room: 205

During our five days in the Netherlands, we played a total of 16 escape rooms, and Pray was hands down my personal highlight of the trip!

Escape Room Katwijk impressed me even before we entered the room itself. The lobby is a wonderful place to relax and get comfortable while waiting for your game to begin. There are also snacks and drinks available on a self-service, trust-based system, which adds a lovely and welcoming touch to the overall experience.

I was already quite nervous when it was finally time to start, as I had heard so many great things about Pray beforehand. Thankfully, the experience absolutely lived up to my expectations!

The opening was incredibly atmospheric and memorable, setting the tone for what was to come in a very special way. From there, the room drew me further and further into its world.

The set design is absolutely stunning. Every area is beautifully crafted, full of detail, and visually impressive. I was completely immersed in the story and atmosphere, and the visual design was one of the things that impressed me most. You can really feel the care and attention that went into creating this experience.

The puzzles were also a real highlight. They were enjoyable, well thought out, and fitted the setting very naturally. While they did not necessarily drive the story forward directly, they still felt like a cohesive part of the world rather than separate puzzle elements. There was only one puzzle whose visual appearance did not quite blend in with its surroundings. However, our game master mentioned that they were already planning to improve it, which is great to hear.

I also really enjoyed the story itself. Without giving anything away, it becomes increasingly emotional towards the end, and there was even a moment when I genuinely had to swallow hard. That emotional depth made the experience feel particularly memorable to me.

A huge part of what made Pray so special was our actor/game master. His performance was absolutely brilliant! He always seemed to know exactly when and how to interact with us, creating an eerie and slightly unsettling atmosphere without ever overdoing it. Especially in the beginning, his approach was wonderfully subtle but incredibly effective. And the finale? Once again, absolutely fantastic and very impactful!

After the game, our game master took plenty of time to show us around, explain things in detail, and answer all our questions. I really appreciated this, as it gave us the opportunity to learn more about the room and the thought behind the experience.

Conclusion:

Pray is currently one of the best escape rooms I have played. It completely captivated me and stayed with me long after the game was over.

Beautiful set design, fantastic puzzles, an outstanding performance, a compelling story, and an incredible atmosphere all come together to create something truly special.

If you enjoy immersive escape rooms with a strong atmosphere and an experience that goes beyond simply solving puzzles, I highly recommend giving Pray a try.

An absolute highlight and, without a doubt, my favourite room of our trip to the Netherlands!

Monster Mashers LIGHT

Tales of Torchdale
Geplaatst op: 19 mei 2026

Amazing!

Monster Mashers at Torchdale was an absolutely outstanding experience and without a doubt one of the most memorable escape rooms I have ever played.

The start of the game alone is incredibly creative and immediately pulls you into the experience in a way I had never seen before. From the very first moment, it becomes clear how much passion, imagination, and craftsmanship went into creating this room.

The atmosphere, storytelling, set design, and effects were all on another level. The entire experience felt polished, original, and full of personality.

I have played almost 200 escape rooms by now, and Monster Mashers truly stands out as something special and unique.

Thank you to the Torchdale team for creating such an extraordinary adventure

highly recommended!
