Beyond expectations, it is a must do room for any escape fanatic!

The weekend adventure to experience The Movies started was a year in the thinking and about six months planning prior to our visit. It was all worth it.

Seeking a unique surprise as a birthday of a dear friend who is a filmmaker, and his comment last year that he had never been to an escape room was the spark to make adventure happen.

The first dimension of the experience was booking the room, which is even more of a challenge than escaping the room itself! The date we selected was the third attempt as waiting up to midnight to book the escape room three months in advance took some coordination and multiple attempts.

Once we booked the room, we had to figure out how to get the birthday boy from Amsterdam to Brugge the day before and get him to The Movies without him actually knowing what we were up to.

It all worked amazingly! Our friend had no idea it was an escape room until the introduction started as part of the experience. This was helped by the fact that the location is in a residential area and there is nothing on the outside or even in the entry area of the location that says ‘escape room’. It was marvelous.

Our group had two first-time escapists – the birthday boy and his wife – another good friend who had done 2 before, and this was my 13th.

Highlights of the experience, compared to other rooms, are the absolute attention to detail to the quality of the physical and game experience. This is clearly a creation of someone with a passion for experience design with the ability to technically execute. As we went from room to room, and sometimes back to rooms which have changed, the experience just flowed as we progressed. I won’t share more about the actual game in order to not give away anything. It is simply a must-do for an escapist.

Although the room states 100 minutes, it took us about 112 minutes to finally 'escape.' If I had one comment, but not a compliant, is that the puzzles of this room are not expert / genius level. They are challenging enough and require communication and team work, but you don't need advanced mathematics or really abstract thinking to solve.

After the experience, we met Anthony – the father of our guide for the game – and he was amazingly welcoming and shared the origin story of the room and the journey of evolution and iteration. As we were with two filmmakers, we spent quite some time discussing the concepts and hidden messages and even understood the technicalities behind the lighting and systems. It was all marvelous and perfect.

Anthony gave us the tip to have lunch in Damme, a small but picturesque village nearby.

By far the top escape experience I have had so far. Special thanks to Anthony and his family for creating something that clearly comes from the heart!
